TEXT: JOSHUA 15:21-47.
KEY VERSE “Ashdod with her towns and her villages, Gaza with her towns and her villages, unto the river of Egypt, and the great sea, and the border thereof” (JOSHUA 15:47)

God owns much more than any human could imagine. The earth is His and its fullness. There can be no restraint to His bestowals from any quarter or power, either in heaven or on earth or underneath the earth.

The description of the territory to be occupied by Judah as captured in the Bible passage today shows an expansive land. This land covers the Southern part of Edom through the wilderness of Zin, including all the cities of Ashdod and Gaza unto the river of Egypt (the Red Sea) and the Great Sea that washes the coast of most cities of the Philistines.

The scriptural phrase, “…For as the man is, so is his strength…” (Judges 8:21) plays out in the case of the tribe of Judah. This tribe had seasoned warlords like Caleb and his nephew Othniel, and other Kenezites. As such, God apportioned them land that must be secured through armed struggle.

God knows who we are and what will satisfy us. Therefore, in life battles, we must quit seeing ourselves as mere men and bear in mind that nothing worthwhile comes easy. Our responsibility then is to maintain a mindset like Caleb and other members of the tribe of Judah to subdue the heathen and possess our possession. This is in line with God’s word that we shall possess “the uttermost part of the earth” (Psalm 2:8).

Beyond earthly possessions, we have a great city to possess – a Kingdom not built with human hands; a city inhabited by the Triune God. We must give our best to enter heaven so as to enjoy the eternal rest and bliss this glorious City affords.

✍THOUGHT FOR THE DAY God’s promised blessings are great and expansive. Go for them!

Born again to be “more than conquerors”

  1. The portion of land assigned to Judah was more than they will ever need vv21-47.
    Application Provision has been made for more than all you will ever need as a child of God. You only need to access them with faith and confidence 2 Peter 1:3,4.
    Oh Lord, open my eyes to discover all that heaven has provided for me in life and eternity
  2. Judah had been predestined to subjugate and destroy the dreaded Philistines since their territories were assigned to Judah. Recall that David proved it by killing the Goliath vv45-47.
    Application God has predestined each believer to conquer all his/her adversaries without any exception. No need to fear any of them no matter their power Romans 8:27, 2 Corinthians 2:14.
    Lord, I praise you because no enemy will be able to conquer me. I am more than a conqueror through Christ. Give me the faith and the mindset of a conqueror
    Holy Ghost, build up my faith and spiritual anointing enough to subdue all my adversaries
  3. Even though God gave this large expanse to Judah, she could not possess all of them overnight. She must fight and battle to possess them one at a time.
    Application Can you really cope if God gives you all your possessions at once overnight? Will you really value them and not lose them if you get them without a fight? God expects you to fight. The more precious the possession, the more fierce the battle. “Fight the good fight of faith” because you have been predestined to be the winner as a true child of God. “You are more than conquerors” Don’t give up, don’t faint, don’t be fed up. Victory is yours.
    Lord, give me the right spirit that will not be satisfied with anything less than what God has in store
    Pray against our collective enemy, COVID-19, that it will be totally and miraculously subdued by the Holy Spirit

HYMN Stand up stand up for Jesus

  1. Stand up! stand up for Jesus!
    Ye soldiers of the cross;
    Lift high His royal banner,
    It must not suffer loss:
    From vict’ry unto vict’ry
    His army shall He lead,
    Till every foe is vanquished
    And Christ is Lord indeed.
    Stand up for Jesus
    Ye soldiers of the cross;
    Lift high His royal banner,
    It must not, it must not suffer loss.
    Stand up! stand up for Jesus!
    The trumpet call obey;
    Forth to the mighty conflict
    In this His glorious day.
    Ye that are men, now serve Him
    Against unnumbered foes;
    Let courage rise with danger.
    And strength to strength oppose.
    Stand up! stand up for Jesus!
    Stand in His strength alone;
    The arm of flesh will fail you;
    Ye dare not trust your own.
    Put on the Gospel armor,
    And, watching unto prayer,
    Where duty calls, or danger,
    Be never wanting there.
    Stand up! stand up for Jesus!
    The strife will not be long:
    This day the noise of battle,
    The next the victor’s song;
    To him that overcometh
    A crown of life shall be;
    He, with the King of glory,
    Shall reign eternally.
